Spaying, Neutering and Declawing

In addition to saving lives, spaying and neutering can also drastically improve your pet’s health and life expectancy. Sterilized pets lead healthier and longer lives. Spaying a female pet eliminates the possibility of uterine and ovarian cancer, life threatening uterine infections as well as greatly reducing the risk of breast cancer. Neutering a male pet reduces the risk of prostate enlargement and the risk of testicular cancer.

In addition to spays and neuters, we regularly perform declaws. Requiring general anesthesia and a two night hospital stay, we perform this procedure safely and humanely while ensuring the comfort of your pet.

Annual Wellness Exams

Pets age faster than people making regular wellness exams an extremely important part of your pet’s health care routine. On average, most dogs and cats reach adulthood by age two. Because dogs and cats age quickly, significant health changes can occur in a short amount of time.

Through our preventative approach, we recommended that pets have a wellness exam annually so that our veterinary staff has the opportunity to detect and treat illnesses or prevent problems before they become life-threatening. This also allows us to tailor an appropriate immunization schedule according to your pet’s lifestyle and your health concerns. As part of this annual check-up we recommend annual lab work. Significant health changes can occur before there are obvious symptoms. Performing routine lab work can catch these problems early and allow early treatment to help your pet live as long and as healthy a life as possible.

Dentistry

Dental hygiene is an important part of your pet’s health and can often be the cause of serious illness. If left untreated, dental problems can often lead to larger systemic problems in your pet due to oral bacteria entering the blood stream and damaging the kidneys, heart and liver. Many of these problems can be avoided by scheduling regular dental check-ups and dental cleanings for your pet.

Veterinary dentistry is considerably more involved, time-consuming and complex than human dentistry. Cleaning a pet’s teeth requires general anesthesia followed by a day long hospitalization. After appropriate pre-anesthetic screening, our skilled veterinary staff regularly perform cleanings, scaling, assessment of tooth and gum health and extractions. Teeth cleanings are day-long procedures that allow your pet to go home the same day after fully recovering from anesthesia.
